Warning...its a little graphic. One summer during my college years I did a marine biology internship in Boston. During that summer a young whale washed up on Cape Cod so we did a roadtrip/necropsy to find out the cause of death. It was grotesque and awesome all at the same time. In case you forgot, whales are mammals like we are, and they have many of the same body parts we do: lungs, ribcages, lungs and penises.
Things I learned that day:
1. Whale lips are soft (that's me touching them in the top photo)
2. Blubber feels like tire rubber, except its 6 inches thick.
3. The whale died of renal failure from a parasite infestation.
4. Dead-whale scent does NOT wash out. Ever.
